Visa Requirements

Diplomatic and Official Visas

Please send the following to the Libyan Embassy at:
1460 Dahlia NW
Washington, DC 20012

  • Diplomatic note from the U.S. Department of State specifying the applicant’s name, title, position, purpose, length of the trip, and the number of entries requested
  • A Passport valid for at least (6) six months with at least (2) two clear visa pages
  • Completed application form filled-out with black ink or printed
  • One recent passport-size (2x2 inch) color photograph with a white background.
  • Photographs must be full-face shots in which the applicant is facing the camera directly (Side or angle views are NOT accepted)

We will request a visa on your behalf from the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Tripoli.

Business Visas

In order to get a business visa to Libya, the company sponsoring you in Libya should put in a request for a visa approval through the Department of Passports and Citizenship and Foreigners. Your approval should include the required period of your stay, passport number, and the name of the sponsoring company.

Once, you are approved, you must send the following documents to the Libyan Embassy located at:

Washington, DC 20012

  • A passport valid for at least six months, with at least two clear visa pages.
  • One recent passport-size (2x2 inch) color photograph with a white background. Photographs must be full-face shots in which the applicant is facing the camera directly. Side or angle views are NOT accepted.
  • A completed application form filled-out with black ink or printed.
  • Fees must be paid through a money order made out to the Embassy of Libya.
    For U.S. Citizens: $160 for a year (multiple entries)
    For Non-U.S. Citizens
    • 30 days $150 (single entry)
    • 90 days $200 (multiple entry)
    • 180 days $350 (multiple entry)
  • Include a Prepaid envelop with the tracking number and the return address label filled out. The envelope should be from FedEx, UPS, or USPS. Please note that the final approval for the visa must come from the authorities in Libya. This usually takes a couple of days.
    PS: For non-U.S. citizens, a copy of the green card or a document confirming legal residence in the U.S.

Visa For a Non-Libyan Spouse

Please send the following to the Libyan Embassy at:

Washington, DC 20012

  • Passport valid for at least six months with at least two clear visa pages
  • Copy of the Libyan spouse's passport and a copy of a US Driving License or Identification Card.
  • Statement of consent from the Libyan spouse
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Marriage Certificate should be registered first at the Consulate
  • Completed application form filled-out with black ink or printed
  • Fee: $25; this must be paid through a money order made out to the Embassy of Libya
  • One recent passport-size (2x2 inch) color photograph with a white background. Photographs must be full-face shots in which the applicant is facing the camera directly. Side or angle views are NOT accepted.
  • Prepaid envelop with the tracking number and the return address label filled out; the envelope should be from FedEx, UPS, or USPS

Journalist Visas

Please send us the following documents in support of your application to request a visa on your behalf from the Media Department in Libya:

  • Completed visa application
  • A copy of your passport
  • A copy of your curriculum vitae
  • A support letter from your publication
  • A description of your publication
  • Please send all documents to info@foreignmedia.ly and send a copy to the Libyan Embassy.

Visas for Libyan Citizens Holding a Foreign Passport.

  • Passport valid for at least six months with at least two clear visa pages
  • Completed visa application
  • Copy of the following:
    1. Libyan Passport and a copy of a US Driving License or Identification Card.
    2. Family Book
    3. Electronic Birth Certificate Or Libyan National ID Number
  • Two recent passport-size (2x2 inch) color photographs with a white background. Photographs must be full-face shots in which the applicant is facing the camera directly. Side or angle views are NOT accepted.
  • Fees:
    90 days $25 (single entry)
    365 days $160 (multiple entries)
    Fees must be paid through a money order made out to the Embassy of Libya
  • Prepaid envelop with the tracking number and the return address label filled out; the envelope should be from FedEx, UPS, or USPS

Tourist Visas
