The Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame said Friday that the UNMIL will reopen an office in Benghazi .
We are preparing to reopen a UN office in Benghazi and I promise you to continue to engage with people and residents of Barqa, eastern Libya.” Ghassan Salame said.
Upon an invitation from elders and notables from Barqa region, SRSG Ghassan Salame attended today in Benghazi a meeting with over 60 tribal leaders representing tribes from the region.
During the meeting, the elders and tribal leaders from Libya's East called for the need of fair sharing of resources and for decentralization. They also presented their views regarding the needed constitutional framework.

SRSG Ghassan Salame had a meeting today in Benghazi University with faculty members and founders of Libyan Association to Support the University of Benghazi.
“Your initiative to raise money for rebuilding your university is a grand one. I support it and will advocate for it at national and international levels. I congratulate you on your resilience; when your university was destroyed, education continued with courage. I congratulate you on your creativity; this is a model, if repeated across Libya, will elevate its institutions.” Said Salame.
